Miss Central Pennsylvania Pageant to Make Changes in
“Artistic Expression” Portion of Pageant Competition
The Miss Central Pennsylvania
Scholarship Pageant announced today that changes will be made to the
information provided to contestants beginning for the 2003 Miss Central
Pennsylvania Pageant. Pageant organizers believe that two of the presentations
in “Artistic Expression,” in the 2002 pageant held on Saturday at the Lewistown
Area High School were in poor taste. As a result, future contestants will be
told in initial mailings that all presentations in “Artistic Expression” must
be in good taste. Contestants will also be told that if there is any question
about their presentation they should contact pageant organizers before
submitting their application. Additionally, contestants will be told that if,
when performing at the “Artistic Expression” rehearsal, the pageant organizers
consider their talent to be in poor taste, that the talent will have to be
changed or they will be dropped from the pageant.
It is hoped that the result of
these changes will be a show in which everyone in the audience, as well as
pageant organizers, will feel comfortable. In the meantime the Miss Central
Pennsylvania Pageant wishes to apologize to anyone in the audience who was made
uncomfortable or who was offended by the presentations this year.
