LEWISTOWN — After a night of singing and dancing, a new Miss Central
Pennsylvania and a Miss Greater Juniata Valley were crowned Saturday
night at the Lewistown Area High School.
Thirteen women competed for the two titles, but at the end of the
night it was Brittny Lynne Sparrow and Mallory Keith who earned the
crowns. The night began amid the firing
of flash bulbs as the the 13 contestants strolled across the stage
introducing themselves and modeling their evening
wear. The talent competition was split
into two halves around the casual-wear competition and the on-stage
question. The young women performed a variety of talents including
singing, dancing and piano playing. The
pageant was co-hosted by MERF radio personality Rocco Pallotto and
reigning Miss Pennsylvania Nicole Brewer, who introduced each
portion of the competition. The 13
competitors were judged in six separate events: interview; lifestyle
and fitness in swimsuit; talent; evening wear; casual wear; and an
on-stage question. The interview was not
conducted during the pageant, but held earlier at the high
school. Sparrow and Keith were crowned
by the 2005 Miss Central Pennsylvania Shannon Doyle and Miss Greater
Juniata Valley, Mary Kay Jacono, who gave heartfelt goodbye speeches
thanking everyone who helped them before surrendering their
crowns. The two competed in the Miss
Pennsylvania pageant in July, and while neither was crowned Miss
Pennsylvania, the two did very well. Both placed in the top 10 with
Jacono named third runner-up in the overall competition and also
named one of two winners chosen in the preliminary swimsuit
competition. Sparrow and Keith will
compete in the Miss Central Pennsylvania Pageant in June and July in
Nazareth for the chance to then compete in the national Miss U.S.A.
pageant. There were three runner-ups in
the pageant, third runner-up Melanie Hilderbrant, second runner-up
Lauren Zumpino and first runner-up Megan
Robinson. In addition to winning the
position of Miss Greater Juniata Valley, Keith also won the talent
competition with her vocal number “Hold On” and the newcomer award,
which is given to a woman who is participating for the first time a
Miss American preliminary. Other
individual winners were: in the evening-wear competition Melanie
Hilderbrant; interview, Megan Robinson; Shannon Lloyd Dance award,
Megan Robinson; piano award, Allyn Michelle Susko; swimsuit, Lauren
Zumpino; non-finalist interview, Rachel Henry and non-finalist
talent award, Rachel Henry. Each of the
individual winners received cash scholarships ranging from $50 to
$150. Miss Central Pennsylvania and Miss Juniata Valley each won
$1,000 scholarships and other prizes. |
