Pageant applications being accepted
LEWISTOWN — Contestants
applications are now being accepted for the 2007 Miss Central
Pennsylvania Scholarship and Miss Central Pennsylvania
Outstanding Teen Pageants.
The pageants will be held
together on Saturday, Oct. 28, in the Lewistown Area High
School in Lewistown.
The Miss Central Pennsylvania and
Miss Central Pennsylvania Outstanding Teen Pageants are
preliminaries to the Miss Pennsylvania and Miss Pennsylvania
Outstanding Teen America Pageants, both of which will be in
the summer of 2007 in Nazareth. The winners there advance to
the Miss America Pageant and Miss America’s Outstanding Teen
Pageant respectively.
To be eligible to compete in the
‘Miss’ pageant, which leads to the Miss America Pageant, young
women must be unmarried and between the ages of 17 and 24 and
reside, attend school or be employed in Pennsylvania.
Last year, more than $3,000 in scholarships, prizes
and awards were given to miss Central Pennsylvania 2006
Brittny Sparrow, Miss Greater Juniata Valley 2006 Mallory
Keith and their runners-up in the Miss Central Pennsylvania
Pageant. Both titleholders also won additional scholarship
money as participants in the Miss Pennsylvania Pageant in
early July of this year.
Once again, this year’s two
winners, Miss Central Pennsylvania and Miss Greater Juniata
Valley, will be named in the pageant and both will advance to
the Miss Pennsylvania competition in June 2007.
‘Miss’
contestants are judged in talent, interview, eveningwear,
on-stage questions and swimsuit. There is no entry fee or
sponsorship required for entry into the ‘Miss’ pageant. Entry
deadline is Sept. 25. Since no more than 20 contestants will
be accepted into the ‘Miss’ pageant, those 20 contestants
whose application materials are received first will be
guaranteed entry into the pageant with those whose materials
are received later being put on a ‘waiting list.’ There is no
entry fee or sponsorship required for the ‘Miss’ pageant.
To be eligible to compete in the ‘Outstanding Teen’
pageant, which leads to Miss America’s Outstanding Teen
Pageant, girls must be between the ages of 13 and 17 and
reside or attend school in Pennsylvania. Contestants must be
no more than high school juniors. Last March, in the first
Miss Central Pennsylvania Outstanding Teen Pageant, the winner
was Calsie Boyd, who went on to win 4th runner-up honors at
the Miss Pennsylvania Outstanding Teen America Pageant on June
30. If sufficient numbers of applications are received, two
winners, Miss Central Pennsylvania Outstanding Teen and Miss
Greater Juniata Valley Outstanding Teen will be named this
year. Both will advance to compete in the Miss Pennsylvania
Outstanding Teen America Pageant in June of
2007.
‘Teen’ contestants are judged in talent,
interview, Evening Wear, On-State Question, Lifestyle and
Fitness in activewear and scholastic achievement. Entry fee
for the Outstanding Teen Pageant is $150. Entry deadline is
Sept. 25. No more than 15 contestants will be accepted into
the ‘Teen’ pageant.
The Miss Central Pennsylvania
Scholarship and the Miss Central Pennsylvania Outstanding Teen
Pageants are sponsored by the not-for-profit Miss Central
Pennsylvania Scholarship Organization.
Scholarships
and prizes are awarded through the generosity of businesses
and organizations throughout the area.
